Rock Series by Hanson Brick offers natural stone look without the cost

June 19, 2006
Architects can create designs with the look and luxury of real stone at a fraction of the expense with Hanson Brick’s Rock Series, limestone cladding with the look and feel of real stone.

“Mined from Hanson’s own quarries, the Rock Series creates a dramatic, natural look and has all the benefits of brick,” said Thad Cleckler, commercial vice president for Hanson’s South Central region. “Additionally, this cladding is easy to assemble and makes for a virtually waste-free work site.”

Manufactured from Texas limestone, the Rock Series embodies the Lone Star state’s rugged landscape. The series includes Hillstone, River Rock, Texas Stone and Ashlar styles available in six standard colors – white, original, buff, light grey, brown and sand – and four special-order colors – dark grey, beige, coral and plum.

Sizes vary by style. Hillstone (straight edge only) and River Rock (tumbled edge only) both come in one size, 3 inches by 10 inches. For more variation, the Texas Stone (tumbled edge only) is available in sizes varying in length between 4 inches and 16 inches with a consistent 3-inch height.

Ashlar offers even greater variation, coming in four sizes that can be manufactured with straight or tumbled edges. All styles feature a broken face texture.

“Ashlar’s sizes and colors can be combined to soften a façade, break up horizontal lines and ensure a unique look to any structure whether it is a home or commercial building,” Cleckler said. “Designs using our Rock Series leave a lasting impression of beauty and style.”

The variety found in the Rock Series also makes it a good choice to clad an entire home or to serve as an accent to other brick, Cleckler added.

The Rock Series meets ASTM C55 specifications for severe weather rating, and it is covered by Hanson Brick’s exclusive 101-year limited century plus warranty.

The Rock Series can also be installed by a regular brick mason instead of a stone mason, and since it is delivered in cubes and does not require chipping, the job site remains tidy.

The Rock Series is available in Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Louisiana; it is packaged in convenient pallets and can be shipped outside the South Central region, but transportation charges apply. Hanson advises that the Rock Series should not be used north of the Mason-Dixon Line as it is not manufactured to weather ratings for severely cold climates.
