Hanson Brick donation will add a tangible piece of garden ridge to city's new municipal complex
Locally-made Limestone Brick To Accent New Building

GARDEN RIDGE, Texas, June 29, 2006
- Hanson Brick has donated more than 4,500 square feet of Ashlar, a limestone brick made with locally-mined stone, as accent cladding on the new administration building in the Garden Ridge municipal complex located off FM 3009.

“Garden Ridge is a beautiful city, and we wanted to donate these locally-made bricks as a gesture of thanks to the city, its residents and Hanson’s nearly 200 employees who work, live and play here,” said Thad Cleckler, Hanson Brick’s commercial vice president for the South Central region. “It is exciting to be able to connect the area’s limestone with the city’s growth.”

Hanson also donated the Ashlar brick used on the community center completed in 2003, and fill material for both building sites, which are situated in the same complex. The city is building the government complex to accommodate a growing population that jumped from 1,450 in 1990 to 2,366 in 2004, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.

“We really appreciate the building materials donated,” said Garden Ridge Mayor Jay Feibelman. “Due to budget constraints it certainly reduced the overall cost of the complex.”

Hanson strives to create brick products that reflect and blend with the local environment. Ashlar, part of Hanson’s Rock Series, is made with crushed limestone mined from Hanson’s Servtex quarry located in Garden Ridge.

Hanson Brick has operated its Garden Ridge brick manufacturing facility since the late 1970s and quarry since the 1930s. The company is actively involved in Garden Ridge community and government activities, including participating in quarry commission meetings since the commission was founded in 2001.

Hanson Brick is North America’s largest brick manufacturer, with approximately 1,600 employees and operations across the United States and Canada. The company provides its customers with superior selection and service, offering more than 1,000 styles of brick in five regional brick collections. Hanson Brick is based in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Hanson Brick is part of Hanson PLC (NYSE:HAN), an international building materials company, with more than 26,000 employees and operations in 15 countries. Hanson PLC is the largest producer of aggregates, the second largest producer of pipe and the third largest producer of brick in the world.
